I always used to think there has to be a genuine way to make money online. Only 1% of people online actually earn an income online. I always wondered if that was something I could do?
So I researched starting my own home based online business.

Let’s be honest, almost all of today’s web pages about starting an online business kick off with some over the top rags to riches story. Sleeping on your friend’s couch, scraping together loose change to eat and then boom an overnight miracle of success.
Well, sorry to disappoint, I don’t have such a story.
I didn’t venture out to start an online home business to make millions. Actually, I was already earning a good living as an Event Production Manager, working with some of the world’s biggest musical acts at some of the largest venues and stadiums around the world.
Things were going well and I had reached the top of my industry with lots of requests from artists to work on their productions. Sounds pretty good, right?
Unfortunately, the cost of all this was my health, well-being and family time.
I was well-known in the events industry and my work grew rapidly. It meant that I was working long hours and weekends, even spending a lot of time away from home and my family on events around the world. It was a 24/7 business and I was always getting requests from clients at all hours of the day. I ended up severely stressed and burnt out. I just kept going and going, trying to ignore it until I found myself not sleeping at night and feeling very anxious about even the simplest of tasks that I had done a thousand times before.
I don’t need to say, this was an intense time. Eventually, I realised that the career path that I was building for myself wasn’t leading to the future I actually wanted and had planned.
Something had to change. It wasn’t an easy decision. It is true what they say, unfortunately money and success cannot buy you health, happiness or time – and without your health and time to enjoy it, money is actually pretty useless.
On top of all that, I recently passed a milestone in my life and turned 50 years old. I have a young family and always felt that I was missing out on quality time with them due to all my travel and work commitments. I decided it was time for a change.
I had this dream to create a life and a business that I could actually enjoy. In the early days of my dream, I had no idea how I was going to achieve it. All I knew was I wanted to spend more time with the people I love, and do more of the things I enjoy.
After going through all the ‘what shall I do next?’ options like: should I look to start or purchase a simple easy to run business (I looked at buying a children’s play centre), purchase a franchise (I looked at buying an off licence franchise), or go to university to learn a new skill (I hated school so university was never an option) – I quickly realised that none of these options would allow me the time freedom, location freedom and financial freedom that I could gain from an online home business. Not to mention the upfront costs of purchasing a traditional business would be far more.
There were initial concerns that I had. Would I need to have lots of technical skills, or be on social media all day posting and replying to comments, or generate a big following (none of which I had or wanted to be doing).
I wanted to create a fully automated online home business that I could set up and then let it run itself with only minimal input required from me.
I was introduced to a training programme for complete beginners that showed me I didn’t need any tech skills or social media followings to get started from scratch.
So I went for it. I put in the effort to learn the skills and knowledge to build my own successful online home business and change my life. You know what? It ended up being the best decision I ever made.
I now have my dream business and time to enjoy my life.
